Subscriptions & CSA Shares
Set up recurring subscriptions, manage flexible delivery weeks, add plan variants and add-ons.
Subscriptions are one of Picket’s most powerful features for flower farms and CSA operations. They let customers commit to a recurring order on a schedule you define — giving you predictable revenue and letting you plan your growing season with confidence.
How Subscriptions Work
A customer subscribes to a plan (like your “Summer Flower Share”) and pays automatically on a recurring schedule — weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Each billing cycle generates an order that you fulfill just like any other order.
You control the delivery schedule. You can mark specific weeks as “delivery” or “skip” weeks, so your subscription schedule matches your actual growing season.
Subscription Plans
Go to Subscriptions > Plans to create and manage your subscription offerings.
Creating a Plan
Click New Plan and fill in:
- Plan name — “Summer Flower Share,” “Weekly Dahlia Subscription,” “Monthly CSA Box”
- Description — What subscribers get, what makes it special
- Base price — The weekly/biweekly/monthly price for the base share
- Billing frequency — Weekly, biweekly (every 2 weeks), or monthly
Plan Items
Add plan items to show customers what’s typically included in a share. These appear on your storefront subscription page and help customers understand what they’re signing up for. They’re descriptive, not inventory-binding — you’re not committing to delivering exactly those products every week.
Plan Variants (Share Sizes)
Offer your share in multiple sizes at different price points:
- Small Flower Share — $25/week — 1 bouquet
- Large Flower Share — $45/week — 2 bouquets
Each variant can have its own price, description, and set of typical plan items. Subscribers choose a variant when they sign up.
Share Previews
Upload a photo of what a typical share looks like. This appears on your storefront and helps customers visualize what they’re committing to. A beautiful photo here dramatically increases conversions.
Flexible Delivery Weeks
The Flex Delivery Weeks feature lets you control exactly which weeks subscriptions deliver and which weeks are skipped.
Go to Subscriptions > Delivery Weeks. You’ll see a calendar of upcoming weeks. Mark each week as:
- Delivery week — Orders are generated and billed for this week
- Skip week — No orders, no charges for this week
This is perfect for:
- Season-based CSA — Mark your 20-week season, skip the off-season weeks
- Holiday skips — Skip Thanksgiving week, Christmas week
- Unexpected gaps — Skip a week if your crop gets hit by frost or you need a break
Subscribers receive an email when a skip week is added so they’re not surprised by a missed delivery.
Add-Ons
Add-ons are optional extras subscribers can add to their share each week. Examples:
- Extra stems ($5/week)
- Dried flower bundle ($12/week)
- Floral foam and supplies ($8/week)
Create add-ons under Subscriptions > Add-Ons. Active subscribers can opt into add-ons from their customer account page.
Managing Subscribers
Go to Subscriptions in the admin sidebar to see all active subscribers.
Each subscriber record shows:
- Customer name and contact info
- Their plan and variant
- Start date and next billing date
- Delivery address or pickup location
- Payment method status
- Any add-ons they’ve selected
- Delivery week history
Pausing and Skipping
From a subscriber’s detail page, you can:
- Pause — Temporarily suspend deliveries and billing. Good when a subscriber goes on vacation. Resume resumes billing from where it left off.
- Skip a week — Skip the next delivery for this subscriber only, without affecting other subscribers.
Cancelling
Click Cancel Subscription to end a subscription. You’ll be asked whether to cancel immediately or at the end of the current billing period. A cancellation email is sent to the subscriber.
Packing Lists
Go to Subscriptions > Packing to see a packing list for any delivery week. Filter by delivery zone to prepare packs for a specific route. The packing list shows:
- Each subscriber’s name
- Their plan, variant, and any add-ons
- Delivery or pickup method
- Any special instructions
Print the packing list or export it as CSV to use it at packing time.
Setting Up a CSA Season
Here’s a recommended approach for a typical 20-week CSA season:
- Create your plan — Name it, set the description, set a biweekly or weekly price.
- Add variants if needed — Small and Large share sizes are common.
- Create delivery weeks — In Subscriptions > Delivery Weeks, mark your 20 season weeks as delivery weeks. Leave the off-season weeks as skips.
- Add a share preview photo — This is your best sales tool.
- Publish the plan — Go live on your storefront.
- Promote it — Share your store link with your email list, Instagram, and local Facebook groups.
For a 20-week CSA at $35/week, a subscriber represents $700 in committed revenue. Getting 30 subscribers is $21,000 — almost all of your seasonal revenue locked in before you plant a single seed.
