Discount Codes

Create percentage or fixed-amount discount codes, set usage limits, and track redemptions.

Discount codes let you run promotions, reward loyal customers, and track referrals. You create a code, set the rules, and customers enter it at checkout to get a discount.

Creating a Discount Code

Go to Discounts in the admin sidebar and click New Discount.

Code

The code customers enter at checkout — e.g., SPRING10, WELCOME15, BLOOMERS50.

Tips for choosing codes:

  • Short and memorable. Customers type these on their phones.
  • Meaningful. A code for a Mother’s Day promotion might be MOTHERSDAY or MOM20.
  • Uppercase. Codes are case-insensitive, but uppercase is easier to read aloud or share verbally.

Discount Type

Percentage off — e.g., 10% off the order subtotal. The discount scales with order size.

Fixed amount off — e.g., $10 off the order. Works best when combined with a minimum order amount.

Usage Limits

  • Maximum uses — Total number of times the code can be redeemed. Leave blank for unlimited. Set to 1 for a single-use gift code.
  • One per customer — Prevents a single customer from using the same code multiple times.

Minimum Order Amount

Require a minimum order subtotal before the code can be applied. For example, require $50+ for a $10 off code — this ensures the discount is worthwhile for you and encourages larger orders.

Expiration Date

Set a date after which the code is no longer valid. Great for time-limited promotions (“Use SPRING10 before April 30!”).

Product Restrictions

Optionally limit the discount to specific products or categories. For example, a code that’s only valid on dahlia products, or only on subscriptions.

Viewing Redemptions

Click on any discount code to see its details, including:

  • How many times it’s been used
  • Who used it and when
  • Total discount amount given

This lets you measure the effectiveness of each promotion.

Disabling a Code

Toggle a code off to stop new redemptions without deleting it. This is useful when a promotion ends — you can keep the code on record without risking it being shared and used after the fact.

Plan Limits

The number of active discount codes you can have depends on your plan:

  • Free plan — 3 discount codes
  • Standard plan — 10 discount codes
  • Pro plan — Unlimited

Archiving a code frees up a slot if you’re on the Free or Standard plan.

Practical Uses for Discount Codes

Welcome discount — WELCOME10 — 10% off first order. Add this to your onboarding email sequence to convert browsers into buyers.

Referral tracking — Give each person in your referral program their own unique code. You can track which codes drive the most business.

Loyalty reward — After a customer’s third order, email them a personal code as a thank-you: THANKS15 — 15% off their next order.

Event promotion — Running a booth at a farmers market? Hand out cards: “Order online with code MARKET5 for $5 off.”

Seasonal promotion — SUMMER20 — $20 off orders over $75, valid through August 31.

Influencer partnership — Give a local blogger or gardening influencer their own code. The redemption data tells you exactly how many customers they sent your way.

Bulk order incentive — BULK25 — 25% off orders of 50 stems or more. Great for wholesale-adjacent customers who don’t need a full wholesale account.

Customer Experience

When a customer has a code, they enter it in the Discount Code field at checkout — it appears on the cart/checkout page. The discount is applied to their order total before they complete payment. They’ll see the savings clearly reflected in the order summary.
