Managing Products

Manage your product catalog, create variants, control seasonal availability, and track inventory.

Your product catalog is the foundation of your storefront. This guide covers everything from the product list view to managing variants, seasonal availability, and inventory.

The Product List

Go to Products in the admin sidebar. The product list shows all your products with their status, price, and stock level.

Filtering and searching:

  • Use the search bar to find products by name.
  • Filter by Category using the dropdown to show products from one category at a time.
  • Filter by Status to see only Published, Draft, or Archived products.

Reordering: Within a category, drag products using the drag handle to change the order they appear in your storefront shop page.

Product Statuses

Status What it means
Published Visible to customers on your storefront
Draft Hidden from customers. Good for work in progress or seasonal items not yet ready.
Archived Removed from your shop permanently (but order history is preserved). Good for discontinued products.

Editing a Product

Click any product in the list to open its detail page. All fields are editable:

  • Name and description — Edit at any time. Changes go live immediately when you save.
  • Price — Update pricing without affecting past orders.
  • Photos — Add more photos, remove outdated ones, or drag to reorder. The first photo is the listing image.
  • Availability — Switch between in stock, limited quantity, and by request.
  • Category — Move to a different category if your organization changes.

Variants

Variants let you offer the same product in multiple options, each with its own price. A variant might be:

  • Stem counts: 10 stems ($20), 25 stems ($45), 50 stems ($85)
  • Sizes: Small, Regular, XL
  • Mix types: Mixed Bouquet, Single Variety, Dried

Adding Variants

  1. Open a product for editing.
  2. Scroll to the Variants section.
  3. Click Add Variant.
  4. Name the variant (e.g., “10 Stems”) and set its price.
  5. Optionally set stock quantity per variant.
  6. Repeat for each option.

Customers choose a variant before adding to cart. If you only have one price/size, you don’t need variants — just set the price at the top level.

Variant Inventory

Each variant can have its own stock quantity. When a variant sells out, it’s automatically marked unavailable while other variants remain purchasable.

Seasonal Availability

For products that are only available during certain times of year — dahlias in summer, poinsettias in December — you can set availability date windows.

In the product form, find Seasonal Availability and enter a Start date and End date. The product automatically becomes unavailable outside that window, and customers see it listed as “Available [Month]” when they browse your shop in the off-season.

Inventory Tracking

Three modes:

In stock (unlimited) — No quantity limit. Useful for made-to-order arrangements or when you have more than you’d ever sell.

Limited quantity — Enter a specific stock number. Picket decrements it with each order. When it hits zero, the product is marked “Sold Out” automatically. You can restock at any time by updating the quantity.

By request — Customers indicate interest but don’t complete a purchase directly. Good for gauging demand on new products or taking inquiries for custom work.

Categories

Categories organize products into sections on your shop page. To manage categories:

  1. Click Products > Categories in the sidebar.
  2. Add, rename, reorder, or delete categories.
  3. Add a hero image to a category to make it visually distinct in your shop.

Products without a category still appear in your shop, but are listed in an ungrouped section at the bottom.

Bulk Operations

Select multiple products using the checkboxes on the left of each row. With products selected, you can:

  • Publish — Make all selected products live
  • Unpublish — Move all selected to Draft
  • Archive — Archive all selected
  • Delete — Permanently delete (this can’t be undone)

Product Import

Need to add a large number of products at once? Use Products > Import to upload a CSV file. Download the template from that page, fill it in with your products, and upload. Picket creates new products for each row.

Note: Import only creates new products — it won’t update existing ones.
