Connecting Stripe
Link your Stripe account so you can accept payments from customers. Takes about 5 minutes.
Before customers can pay you, you need to connect Stripe — the payment processor Picket uses under the hood. This takes about 5 minutes and requires basic business information.
How It Works
Picket uses Stripe Connect, which means when a customer pays on your storefront, the money goes directly from their card to your Stripe account. Picket never holds your money — it flows straight through.
Connecting Your Account
- In your admin sidebar, go to Settings > Payments.
- Click Connect with Stripe.
- You’ll be redirected to Stripe’s onboarding — either create a new Stripe account or log into an existing one.
- Complete Stripe’s onboarding steps (detailed below).
- Stripe redirects you back to Picket when finished.
What Stripe Asks For
Stripe’s onboarding is required by financial regulations. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Your legal name — Your personal legal name (not your farm name, unless it’s your legal name).
- Business type — Most flower farms and cottage businesses are Individual / Sole Proprietor. If you have an LLC or other entity, choose the appropriate type.
- Business address — Your business or home address.
- EIN or SSN — Stripe uses the last 4 digits of your SSN for identity verification (or your full EIN if you have one). This is a legal requirement for processing payments in the US.
- Bank account — Your routing and account number for payouts. This is where your sales proceeds land.
- Phone number — For account verification.
Stripe’s onboarding walks you through each step. The whole process typically takes 5–10 minutes if you have this information handy.
Payout Schedule
Once connected, Stripe automatically transfers your earnings to your bank account on a rolling basis. The default schedule is daily payouts with a 2-day delay — so money from Monday’s orders typically arrives in your bank account by Wednesday.
You can change your payout schedule directly in your Stripe dashboard under Settings > Payouts.
Understanding the Fees
Every card transaction incurs Stripe’s standard processing fee: 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. This is Stripe’s fee — it applies regardless of which Picket plan you’re on.
In addition, depending on your Picket plan:
- Free plan: 2% Picket service fee per order
- Standard and Pro plans: 0% Picket service fee
Example for a $50 order on the Standard plan:
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Customer pays | $50.00 |
| Stripe processing fee (2.9% + $0.30) | −$1.75 |
| Picket service fee | −$0.00 |
| You receive | $48.25 |
On the Free plan, subtract an additional $1.00 (2% of $50), so you’d receive $47.25.
Refunds
If you need to refund a customer, do it from the order detail page in Picket (Orders > [Order] > Issue Refund). The refund is processed automatically through Stripe.
A few things to know about refunds:
- Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢ processing fee is non-refundable — Stripe keeps it even when you refund.
- Refunds come from your Stripe balance. If your balance is lower than the refund amount, Stripe may debit your connected bank account.
- Full and partial refunds are both supported.
If Your Account Shows as Restricted
After connecting, if Stripe shows your account as “restricted” or “needs more information,” it means Stripe requires additional verification. Log into your Stripe dashboard and look for a banner or notification about what’s needed. This is common for new accounts and is usually resolved quickly by uploading a photo ID.
Disconnecting Stripe
If you ever need to disconnect your Stripe account, go to Settings > Payments and click Disconnect. Important: once disconnected, your storefront cannot accept payments until you reconnect. Existing orders are unaffected.
